What are the types of breast cancer?

These are the most common types of breast cancer:

  • Non-invasive breast cancer (in situ carcinoma). This type of cancer affects the ducts (the channels where milk flows through), and it does not spread from the breast to other organs.
  • Invasive breast cancer which affects the duct cells, and is the most common type of cancer. This type of cancer may or may not spread to other tissues.

Less common types include:

  • Cancer accompanied by inflammation of the breast
  • Morbus Paget
  • Cancer of type Erysipelas, which is accompanied by inflammation
  • Occult carcinoma of the breast: nodules are identified below the armpit, and no signs or symptoms are visible on the breast. Bone metastasis may occur, and the primary tumor may not be palpated.
